scammed by cashing a certified check
Feb 1, 2016
Monetary Loss: $1520.00
Buyer confirmed purchase of my couch over the phone and said they would send a certified check. I agreed. After sending check, they said they were adding extra $ for the movers who were to pick up the couch. When I received the check, it was for $1500 over purchase amount. The buyer asked if I would cash check and pay driver. I agreed. After a day of couch not being picked up and a countless amount of texts, buyer said movers would not pick up couch unless paid ahead of time and asked that I wire the money to movers head office in Texas (* I live in Kentucky). Reluctantly, I did because I did not want to hold onto so much money that didn't belong to me. Buyer said as soon as moving company received wired $, they would pick up couch. I put couch on my front porch because I was feeling uneasy. They never came and I never heard back from them. My bank now says the cashier's check is fraudulent and I am responsible for the full amount ($1700).

I got an email request through my online shopping site for an order from someone named messi petty. She emailed me and said she had no credit card, but wanted to place an order. I told her to send me a check and then I would process the order. She emailed me in a panic saying she sent way too much money to me by mistake. A check came to me via Fed Ex from a Real Estate Company in New York for $1750. Her "order" that she wanted to place from my site was for around $300. She wanted me to cash the check and send her the difference. The address she gave me is: 25033 Midland Ave Redford, Charter Twp, MI 48239. The return address on the Fed Ex envelope is: Jason Henry Jones, D'Eisenstein, 270 Park Ave, New York, NY 10017. I took the check to the bank and they told me it was fraudulent. I called the Real Estate company and they said they have closed their account, I am not sure how scams work and if this messi peggy will still be able to scam people so I wanted to report it right away.
I was selling my snow plow online on the site wallapop , and gave my contact info to a guy who emailed me he wanted to buy it , I agreed to sell it to him and he sent a cashiers check to me through usps 3 day mail , I deposited the check and proceeded to wait for it to clear my account, now he had sent me the shippers fund on top of it and wanted me to handle the funds as I instantly questioned him on it . The shippers company and name are James Phillips from 104 Douglas dr. Columbus O.H 43230 . The tracking # for the USPS is 9405501699320071898400 , as to my surprise the check was a forgery I am being charged from my bank for it and I also have checks out thinking that this was legit
