Asking for Donations

I received a call while I was at work asking for the Head of Household... on my cell phone. I could tell it was a voice prompted VOIP system. He did not announce himself, but said "We are calling from the national veterans committee and we are wondering if you can help us raise funds to help veterans." He laid it on thick about supporting vets and wounded vets that risked their lives for our freedom. The caller was very polite and did not ask for a lot of money. He was hard sell in a very gentle way. When I said it wouldn't be in my financial interest to donate he said he didn't want to overwhelm me, then talked about a minimum one time donation of $15. I said ok and I could hear the background change to the normal bustle of a call center. A second person came on the phone to get my address for a pledge envelope and addressed the other caller as Brian. While he was confirming my interest in donating I was googling this charity. I found this blog. When I doubled back and said no he hung up on me.

False info and wanted commitment to send money as soon as received envelope

Took call at 1754 with caller asking for Katie, told them they had wrong number and then he said well maybe you can help me out. Stated he is from National Veterans Committee and we're asking for pledges of gold, silver, or bronze level donations. I committed to bronze at $25. I had red flags go off when they when they wanted payment as soon as possible from receipt of packet. Then they asked if that was a comfortable amount for me to pay, as they could sense my hesitation. They then said immediate payment was to decrease overhead and backup of collections. But since it is mail in only I gave information for mailing and started looking for information. I can't fid a Web page at all. I asked them where they were based and calling from he said Birmingham, Alabama but the number is from Florida. Will be interesting to see how much they spend in paper on the packet they send out. Will still look as I want to do what I can for those who serve.

Obviously call from a call center, human individual trained to field resistance. Even if legit, they offer feeble arguments, I did not buy.

National Veterans Committee and others are SCAM

Got a call from "National Veterans Committee" much like others' reported wanting a donation to help veterans. Told the guy I wanted to look up the organization first and make sure they're reputable before I donated. He immediately hung up. I looked them up and found them to be owned by the "National Assistance Committee"
which also owns two other names;
"National Law Enforcement Committee"
and "National Firefighters Committee".
All three of these are political action committees and all three are owned by a corporation. None are classified as a non-profit. Below is the site I found all this info on. Do some digging and you'll find the attorney name who filed the trademarks on these committees. Crooked MFers should be jailed. (https://trademarks.justia.com/874/61/national-veterans-87461922.html)

Collecting for the veterans

I received a call asking for a donation to help veterans. The caller was very polite and did not ask for a lot of money. He was hard sell in a very gentle way. He wanted me to give him a credit card number to charge the donation immediately. While I agreed to send a donation to help veterans, something just didn't seem kosher, so I didn't give him my credit card number. He said that he would send a bill and asked me to send my donation within a week. A second person came on the phone to get my address. She again pushed the importance of sending the donation quickly. I checked the "charity" on-line and could not find the National Veterans Committee anywhere other than as a scam. I have to give them credit, their invoice looks very professional. I have received a second invoice, but they aren't going to be receiving any money.

Got a call from someone asking for me by name. I recently changed from Vonage to Comcast Voice, and they probably sold my number to a bunch of folks out there, because I get nonstop bogus calls, from contacting companies to solar to "charities". I don't hire or especially give money to anyone who calls me; I can make those mistakes all by myself. So he tells me he represents National Veterans Committee, which sounded like another "charity" that called me recently with the same tactics, the "Pro-Life Committee - National Campaign", which after researching turned out to be nothing but a scam that someone is getting rich off of. I told him I would like to research his charity before I could give any money and he said "OK, can we count on a one-time donation of $15 then?" I said, send me your letter and I'll decide. He said Ok and hung up. Waiting to see the paperwork. 925-266-5865

I just got the call. They asked for someone who doesn't live here -- on my cell phone. I did everything I could to avoid saying "Yes" because I knew they were recording, and I've heard of scams in which they record you saying "Yes" and then use that to commit you to some huge obligation. Anyway, the guy said they'd send out a pledge packet. Then the "confirmation" lady gets on and asks for a credit card number. I asked that she send a pledge card, instead. Based on what I've read here (and other websites), I will not be returning that card with my donation. I've also blocked the number in my cell phone.

Definitely doesnt seem right so I am sitting here with the "bill" they sent. wanted to see if it was legit. nothing on BBB, so just searched the internet for "National Vererans Committee" Thank you all for the heads up!!!!!

I just had the same phone call only mine was an actual person and they wanted a minimum donation. I also looked them up and when I told I saw they were a scam they immediately hung up the phone no reply. Click. This sounds like a scam for sure.

I just received the same phone call, I knew it was a scam from the beginning. However, I decided to play along. First, you can hear the click of the recording and if you do not say anything then it jumps to the statement "so are you comfortable with you $$ donation"? Absolutely not!!! I asked numerous times what organization they were collecting money for and they gave me the same pre-recorded saying over and over. They finally got irritated and hung up on me.

Same thing happened to me. They sent me a bill in the mail so I decided to look up their organization. I cannot find anything online about them, except complaints! I definitely will not be sending them any money.

I've had almost the exact same experience. I spent a lot of time on the Internet trying to find out who this "organization" is, to no avail. They have no internet presence.
