Posing as DirecTV

I received a call Monday 3/26/2018 around 6 PM. Alan claimed to be from DirecTV, offering a upgraded receiver because they were allegedly having a lot of complaints and losing customers. He first offered new receiver for $99.00, installed with a $20.00 credit per month for 24 months. By the end of the call, he said he talked to his manager & could give me $35.00 off per month for 24 months. Gave me an appointment for Friday, 3/30/2018 and said I would get a call from their verification department. I got a second call from Steven a little after 7 PM, who sounded just like Alan (heavy Pakistani ? accent) confirming what Alan had told me. Then, he asked me for a credit card to put the $99.00 on. I told him DirecTV is on auto-pay and my information is there or I can go online and pay it. He became insistent so I told him I was in the middle of dinner, could he call me back in an hour or so. He said no problem. I then called DirecTV and spoke to Erica. I told her about the calls and that I know DirecTV does not ask for credit card info over the phone. She verified that they had a lot of complaints about these calls, asked if I had reported it. I said that I was going to report it, but wanted to check with what I know is DirecTV. The odd thing is, yesterday, I did call DirecTV about changing my service...keep HBO and ditch Showtime & Starz.

Attempted Scam

The above phone number belongs to a private individual. It has been lifted and is being used in a credit card scam. A person with an accent started on a scripted statement about taking advantage of a credit card offer. When he was told to stop calling my number, he hung up. I called the number and left a message. The owner of the phone called back and did not know his phone was being used for these kind of calls.
