House for Rent

My husband and I had been looking at houses to rent and found on listed on Craigslist and contacted the guy who we thought owned the house and was renting it out. He told us that him and his wife were Missionaries and had already moved to Michigan where they were doing Missions. After talking through text messages and phone calls, he asked us to fill out an application and send our photo ids attached with the application. We did that and he said him and his wife would review the application and get back with us. They did later that night and said that we had been selected to rent his house. The next step is that we needed to do a money transfer through Western Union. It was $750 for the first months rent and $700 deposit. We went to Western Union Money Transfer through the Bilo located on Main St in Fountain Inn, SC. We did this money transfer using cash instead of our debit/credit cards. Later that day he was supposed to send the lease agreement and keys through Fedex and overnight ship them. He called us shortly after he shipped the box and told us that his Lawyer couldn't receive the funds because Western Union had a hold on it and that I needed to call Western Union and have them lift the hold so that they could receive the first months rent and deposit. When I called Western Union and explained to them what was going on, the lady placed me on hold and came back a few minutes later and told me that there were people doing this as a scam and fraud and that instead of lifting the hold for this gentleman and his lawyer to receive the funds that they would be refunded my money to me. So they did but because we had already submitted our application and ids I became immediately concerned about identify and credit theft and have and in the process of taking the necessary steps to take care of this as best that i can.

I have a signed lease dated 12/20/2018 that states we will have the keys in 24 hours once the deposit was paid which at this time it had been paid. Kept emailing, texting, and calling. Only one response and that it was in an escrow dispute and she would return our money right away. She gave me her act number to send money and I gave ways to return the money. I still do not have my 800.00 and i need that back so i can move by 3/31/19 because my lease is not renewing due to the owner passed away and house is to be sold. I want my money back. Her email address is ([email protected]). Parcel # 9201652 in Stark County Ohio.

Scamming an apartment

I found an apartment for rent in Cranston, RI on criagslist. It was listed at $900/month while zillow had it for $1,250. I figured I might as well ask just to see. He sent me an email about him staying in Salt Lake City and that he would mail the keys to me. His number listed was not on any of the zillow/trulia/hotpad ads. I found his number listed on here for a different scam but using the same type of story!

I posted an ad on Roomster and I got a text from Anthony Sims saying his wife Monica told him to reach out to me. He wanted me to send him $125 for application fees before I could pick up keys from FedEx. He sent me an email with pics of the house. Said he and his wife would be living in Phoenix AZ while I "take care of and watch over" the house.
