False Apartment Advertising

While searching for apartments, I found a listing on apartments.com for 8 Millbrook Dr., Toms River, NJ. The ad, which has since been removed, sounded too good to be true and it was. They wanted $700 in monthly rent and a $700 security deposit. We responded and entered in an email conversation with the supposed owner, where they asked us to send the security deposit to them first in order for them to send us the keys and paperwork. They wanted the $700 sent to Akakpo Godwin in Grand Junction, CO. However, every time we asked for a lease agreement in exchange for the down payment they sent us invalid documents or a story about how sending the agreement would open them up to scammers. We called around and found out that the house is actually for sale.

I has been scamed by Sammy Nelson Izah

Looking for a house to lease I found a very nice house on Zillow.com. On the first picture of the house was a sign " the rent has been reduced to $950 Contact [email protected] I made an appointment with realtor by phone and also send E-mail to address shown on the picture. In a few hours I got a massage from Sammy Nelson with his story "

The house is still available, but presently I'm not around;I am am presently in Houston with my family, I came over here with my wife and children because I got transferred to work here as the trade marketing consultant for my company here in Houston . Due to the present situation,I've decided to buy a house here in Houston .My wife and I bought the house when we got married, and when we moved down here I had a thought of selling the house, so I had to look for an agent, after getting one, we got a deal but later my wife had suggested we lease the house to someone who could as well take very good care of it...So I contacted the agent and requested for my keys and documents. I personally would have given the same agent this task to carry out,but the extra charges these agents get for carrying out their job we believe might scare away those seeking to rent our home(Some people are not aware that you get to pay more in rent when an agent is involve, and get to pay less when renting from the owner directly). You will discover that the price we are offering is far below standard price, this is enough for you to know that we are not after the rental fee but the absolute care for the property. I would advise you drive by the address and have a look around the neighborhood and exterior, then get back to me if you think it's the right place for you to live in. Thank you for taking out time to read this message,I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards

Sammy"
...".........I just wanted to let you know that we have decided to let you live in our house. As we have found your application very satisfactory and acceptable by my family.

Our home is available for rent for 5 years, but the initial lease will run for a stretch period of 1 year, and subject to extension upon mutual satisfaction of both parties, but am positive we would have a cordial relationship..I’m ready to accept either monthly or upfront mode of payment, but before you move into the house you will have to provide the first month rent and the deposit. The deposit is the same as the rent, and if you want an upfront payment that will not be a problem depending on the option you’re most comfortable with... documents and keys will be sent to you via courier service to the address you have sent to me and the tracking number will be sent to you upon the confirmation of the payment.....The only issue we have is with your move in date as we are looking at renting out the house as soon as possible, but i and my wife thought that we suggest to you that if you can come up with the deposit as a sign of commitment so that we can hold the house for you and also take it off rental site then that will be great.get back to me to let me know what you think."
Finally he send me a contract to sign out . By that time I had already found that Sammy is not a owner of the house and met the realtor and told her about a scammer who put the sign on the picture of the house.
We had further discussions with Sammy as for payment options and he insisted that I would pay a rent by the medium. I also tried to make him change a contract including his present address for payments and other phone for emergency... Finally I got bored by his E-mails and blocked his contact.
