Craigslist rental posting offered Cocoa Beach Rental at 750 N Atlantic Ave, Unit 504 for $750 p/w. Beautiful photos. I was emailed a lease agreement to sign and return. Then he insisted on me paying by money order for $950 ($500 deposit + 60% of rental fee) to his assistant (Patricia Williams, Gainesville, FL or Karla Nelson, Misquite,TX) with balance of $300 to be paid on arrival. He said he would meet us at the condo with keys and further instructions. I kept thinking this all felt "fishy" and started searching for scams. The same phone number came up on this scam: vacation folly

Corresponding with Nelson Nancy about vacation rental. emails went back and forth including a signed lease agreement. Money orders were sent to "business manager" Maxine Brice at 12 S. Bulova Dr. Apopka, Florida. One email followed saying the receipt would be sent when money orders cleared. Ms. Brice signed for the money. No email or receipt came. No answer to our emails and calls.

ATTEMPTED TO SCAM A SHORT TERM APARTMENT FOR THE WEEKEND VIA HOME AWAY

I found a short term rental on Travel Mob for a weekend trip to New York City. When booking the apartment through Travel Mob, the hose, Samuel James Goodey, requested that I contact him directly at [email protected] I did so, and he asked that I process the payment through Home Away, his preferred rental site. I agreed and he sent me a request for payment. I clicked on the payment button and entered my credit card information. Then, the Home Away site denied payment and a message came up that their systems were down for 2 weeks and that I would need to process payment differently. I then received an email from Home Away that requested a wire transfer for payment instead of a credit card payment:
