Monetary Loss: $0
I received a telephone call saying they were from the United States Social Security Office. The caller said that my ssn has been linked to some money laundering and other fraudulent activity. They wanted me to go immediately to my credit union, close my account and wire them $5,000. I did not close my account or wire them the money. I did call my credit union and had them to freeze my account until I was able to get by there and speak with someone today.
Called number back, told my my identity had been stolen in texas and explained the charges against me. Said to clear it up they needed some information to make sure I was myself. Gave them how many cars and properties I owned. Thry asked what bank I had and how much money I had in my account. and asked for the last 4 of my social security. I called my friend and boyfriend and they told me it was a scam and to contact the bank ans SSA right away.

I received two phone calls from a man saying he was from social security. Both calls came from New York and both times they left a message saying that my number was used in a fraudulent matter and that I needed to call him back. First phone call was Tuesday 2/26/19 and the second was today Wednesday 2/27/19. I still have the voicemail on my phone from today 2/27/19. The phone number is the same number as Tuesday’s phone call.
