INTERNATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (IAA) & WORLDWIDE ASSOCIATION OF NOTABLE ALUMNI (WWANA)

I was contacted by the International Alumni Association to join their association of alumni. On my FB page I said I graduated from Harvard, which I did not. A woman named Ashley called to ask me a few questions to determine my eligibility to join the association. After a few questions, based on a feeling she got she said I was accepted. She offered me a Lifetime package to which I declined. I was offered a few other options including a 5 yr, 1 yr trial. I told her I had a problem giving out my credit card information on the phone, which I did, but apart from me telling her about my accomplishments, there was no way to verify the information.

The funny thing is, she gave me a 718-489-8637 number to call her back but the number that came up on my phone is 929-302-3420. The 718 number is on their website as well as an address but I don't think the address is real. Someone also contacted my friend a while back from WWANA, Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni from the same 929 number. I think it is the same people and they changed their name.

WANA is a scam to take your money. Beware!

About 1 week after signing up on the WANA website I received a phone call from a Ms. Erin Bishop from California on a 929 code. She proceeded to ask me a few questions about my professional attainment in order to 'verify my eligibility to join their alumni'. She then told me that I would make a good fit to the alumni, that she was gonna add me right away and that she emailed me the starter package. She then offered me a membership to their database which cost something like $489 for a lifetime and $389 for 5 year membership. She then said that she needed my credit card info to make the payment. I told her that I was not gonna give that info on the phone. Upon sensing my reluctance to spend this money, she started a bargain to offer me 1 yr at $189 and finally at $99. I did remain adamant that I was not gonna give her any credit details on the phone and told her that they should email me their account info and provide a way for me to securely pay online. She made a last ditch effort to get the card details from me, insisting that I give her at least the expiry date on my card. To this I also refused. She then hurriedly gave me her name and a number (+1929 302 3420) so that I could reach her at any time I change my mind. But in the meantime I would have minimal access to their database. She then hung up but I did not get any packages in my email. Beware people. I am from the Caribbean so they have reached here with this crap.

I have been called to join Wana. Asking for my credit card number on the phone

They call present themselves ask you many questions about your professional life, congratulate you on your achievements (even if they are very normal) then tell you are definitely accepted to this association (based on whatever) the. after feeling confident with them they ask you whether you would like the lifetime membership or the 5 year one they said it would be 6 dollars for the lifetime one and 4 for the 5 year plan (hahaha) they asked me if I would be paying with visa, master card and I had to do it right there on the phone! Then I got it, but until then! I had been talking to a person for 10 min about my life whom I did not know and now wanted my credit card number and was really expecting me to give this info!! Until then I had trusted but in that moment I was totally reluctant and told him he should put himself in my place, how could I trust him as I had no write. Info about them and how could I give this super private info on the phone? Then he said many reasons of why I should trust their súper safe systems and since that didn't mean anything to me I still said sorry I can't but when I receive all the info on my mail I will analyse it and maybe on a safe webpage I could pay, he then hurried the conversation to end and hung up. That left me super nervous because such a friendly person was really a thief!!! I was chatting to a thief!

Alumni scam

Got a call about membership with the worldwide association of notable alumni. Very professional and friendly interview to qualify for membership but I was concerned when I was told my membership was approved based on the interview with no verification of anything I said. When I was asked for credit card info to make a payment I knew something was wrong and told Sonia Kelly I had left my credit card at home. I then took the time go call FIU who never heard of WANA. She kept calling me back but I ignored the calls. Decided to call the same number 929 302 3420 at 5 am in the morning and this time Deidre from Professional Registries answered ... Sounds just like Sonia. Beware and be smart. May 1, 2017.
